$560K colt tops Zayat’s OBS purchases
Through the first three days of the April 21-24 OBS Spring Sale of 2-year-olds in Training, Zayat Stables prevailed as the high bidder on a trio of colts, topped by a $560,000 son of Giant’s Causeway.

On Thursday, hip No. 898, consigned by Q Bar J Thoroughbreds, Agent, was sold to Patrice Miller, EQB Inc., Agent for Zayat, for $560,000. The bay colt, who worked an eighth in :10 1/5 at Friday’s Under Tack session, is out of Conniption (IRE), by Danehill Dancer, a daughter of stakes placed Showbiz.

“We were hoping to get him for less,” Miller said. “We were thinking we would probably be in around $350,000 or so. But Mr. Zayat wanted him and I do as I’m told.

“He had very good overall balance,” Miller continued. “He had a great way of moving. We have a very strict vetting procedure and he vetted for us and we were very happy.”

Zayat purchased a pair of colts on opening day of the auction. Hip No. 193, a Ghostzapper juvenile consigned by Bobby Dodd, went for $145,000. The colt is out of the multiple winning producer Northglen, a half-sister to multiple stakes winners Canadian Silver and Cheery Knight.

Hip No. 255 was consigned by Woodford Thoroughbreds, with the son of Yes It’s True hammering for $170,000. The colt is out of the unraced Meadowlake mare Playful Princess, dam of the Grade 3-placed filly White Merlot.
