American Cleopatra among favorites in Del Mar Debutante (G1)
Zayat Stables' flashy maiden special weight winner American Cleopatra drew post three for Saturday's $300,000 Del Mar Debutante (G1), the showcase race of the meet for 2-year-old fillies.

Being a full sister to 2015 Horse of the Year and Triple Crown champion American Pharoah, American Cleopatra will have all eyes on her as she pursues her own measure of greatness. In her lone start to date, the bay filly looked very sharp with a two-length maiden special weight score after a spirited early duel for the lead.

Like American Pharoah, American Cleopatra is trained by Bob Baffert, who noted the similarities and differences of the filly and her older brother.

“She’s a sweetheart at the barn. She’s very sweet and he was sweet.” The physical build of American Cleopatra may differ from American Pharoah, but their temperaments are much the same.”

American Cleopatra will run without blinkers in Saturday's seven-furlong race and will be ridden for the first time by Rafael Bejarano. The Debutante is race 9 on the program, with a scheduled post time of 8:58 p.m. ET.
