American Pharoah draws post 2 for $1.6 million Travers (G1)
Zayat’s Triple Crown champion American Pharoah will make his next start on Saturday when he breaks from gate 2 in the $1.6 million Travers S. (G1) at Saratoga.

Saturday’s 1 ¼-mile contest, with a scheduled post time of 5:46 p.m. ET, drew a field of nine other 3-year-olds looking to end the champion’s eight race winning streak.

American Pharoah was made the heavy 1-5 morning line favorite, with Frosted, who finished second to the champ in the Haskell Inv. (G1), the second choice.

"(Texas Red) is a very nice horse; he won the Breeders' Cup (Juvenile, G1) very impressively," American Pharoah’s trainer Bob Baffert said. "I think (his connections) have done a great job getting him back (to the races)." (Texas Red) is going to be tough. It's not an easy race. You've got Frosted in there. There are the new shooters coming up. So, we're prepared for a tough race."

Other contenders include Preakness (G1) runner-up Tale of Verve, Haskell runner-up Keen Ice, and Grade 2 winner Upstart.

American Pharoah will be ridden by regular rider Victor Espinoza. If the homebred colt were to win, he’d be only the second Triple Crown winner to also take the Travers, joining Whirlaway, who won in 1941.
