American Pharoah draws post 4 in $1.75 million Haskell Inv.
Zayat Stables’ Triple Crown champion American Pharoah will make his first start since the Belmont S. (G1) when he takes on field of seven other 3-year-olds in the $1.75 million Haskell Inv. (G1) at Monmouth Park on Sunday.

Victor Espinoza, American Pharoah’s regular rider, will be aboard once again in the 1 1/8 miles affair.

American Pharoah arrived at Monmouth on Wednesday from his southern California base, and has taken well to his new surroundings according to his trainer Bob Baffert.

“He’s holding his form and that’s the whole key after all he’s been through,” said Baffert, who is seeking a record eighth Haskell victory. “He had to show me that before I put him on the plane. My job is to keep him healthy and happy and ready to roll.”

Courtesy of Monmouth, the field, from the rail out and with riders and odds is: Upstart, Joe Bravo, 6-1; Competitive Edge, Mike Smith, 8-1; Nonna’s Boy, no rider, 30-1; American Pharoah, Victor Espinoza, 1-5;  Mr. Jordan, Paco Lopez, 15-1; Keen Ice, Kent Desormeaux, 12-1; Top Clearance, Abel Castellano, Jr., 30-1; and Dontbetwitbruno, no rider, 30-1.

Post time for the Haskell, which is the 12th of 14 races on the card, is 5:52 PM. Live coverage of the Haskell will be on NBC-TV from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. ET.
