American Pharoah takes home Horse of the Year, 3-year-old Male Eclipse Awards
The final crowning achievement on American Pharoah’s historic racing career came on Saturday evening when the recently-retired colt was honored with Eclipse Awards for 2015 Horse of the Year and 3-year-old Male.

The ceremony at Gulfstream Park was filled with joy, even if the results were hardly surprising following American Pharoah’s legendary run through the Triple Crown and culminated with his record-setting performance in the Breeders’ Cup Classic, his final race before being retired to stud.

American Pharoah’s win in the Belmont S. was also voted by the fans as the NTRA’s Moment of the Year.

“For me, he is a horse of the lifetime; thank you so much American Pharoah,” said Ahmed Zayat .

“I never thought we could get any closer (as a family), but American Pharoah brought us all closer,” said Ahmed’s wife Joanne after her husband turned the podium over. “I want to thank all of you, the fans, the media, the other trainers…I’m in awe of all of people who have been in the industry for generations. I want to thank you all for crowning our Horse of the Year.”

American Pharoah, who also earned Zayat an Eclipse when he was named the 2014 Eclipse Award winner in the 2-year-old male category, retired with a total of eight Grade 1 wins and earnings of $8,650,300. He is standing stud at Ashford Stud in Versailles, Ky.
