Challah breaks his maiden Nov. 23 at Del Mar - Benoit photo
Challah's switch from turf to dirt paid immediate dividends on Nov. 23 when the 3-year-old Zayat Stables colorbearer won a one-mile maiden race at Del Mar by a neck over The Longest Night.

After a pair of turf outings over the summer, Challah got a brief break before returning in Saturday's contest. The chestnut was in battle the entire trip, first chasing C Falls through six furlongs before the two came on even terms at the top of the stretch, then holding off The Longest Night gamely to get the win.

Challah is a son of Jimmy Creed out Sliced Bread and is a full brother to last year's San Vicente S. (G2) and Laz Barrera S. (G3) winner Kanthaka.
