Zayat Stables' 2-year-old filly Dontmesswithjoanne sparkled in her career debut Saturday at Churchill Downs, exploding in the stretch to win the one-mile maiden special weight turf contest by 5 ¾-lengths under Florent Geroux.

The bay daughter of Pioneerof the Nile left quite an impression with her bold move in the final furlong, but looked like she might have left herself too much to do after lingering near the back of the 12-horse field for the first five furlongs. She began to make up some ground, but was very wide on the racetrack turning for home. Despite the less-than-ideal trip, she kicked into high gear and rolled by the field to stop the timer in 1:39.62 (VIDEO).

Dontmesswithjoanne was bred by Gulf Haven Farms and was purchased by Zayat for $87,000 at the 2015 OBS Winter Sale. The filly's dam is out of Cinnamon Kisses, a sister to Grade 3 winner The Mailet and is from the same family as multiple Grade 1 winners Stellar Jayne and Starrer.

Dontmesswithjoanne, trained by Brad Cox, picked up $32,700 for the win.
