Egyptian Pioneer on cruise control in maiden win
Egyptian Pioneer tallied a dominating 10 3/4-length maiden victory Feb. 17 over the off-going at Aqueduct at the 1-5 favorite in the one-mile contest for 3-year-olds [WATCH RACE].

In hand behind horses through the first six furlongs, jockey Junior Alvarado found a seam at the top of the stretch, and in a matter of strides was drawing away from the field. Alvarado geared the son of Pioneerof the Nile down in the last sixteenth of a mile and was eased up at the wire.

A homebred out of Beautiful Julie, Egyptian Pioneer was making just his second start. The bay colt is from the same family as multiple graded stakes winner Mr. Greeley, who also finished second in the Breeders' Cup Sprint (G1).
