Zayat Stables LLC's 3-year-old colt Fast Bullet turned in a scintillating performance in his racing debut, drawing off to a 6 1/4-length victory in a six furlong maiden contest on Santa Anita Park's main track on Oct. 9.
The Bob Baffert trainee was well-backed at 6-5 for his initial start, and the chestnut sped to the lead soon after the break. Up a head after a quarter mile in :21.84 and a half in :44.80, he continued to pour on it the stretch under the urging of Martin Garcia. The final time was an excellent 1:08.59 on the fast surface and earned Fast Bullet a Beyer Speed Figure of 92.
Fast Bullet was bred in Kentucky by Roy Gottlieb. The son of Speightstown is one of five winners out of Renfro Valley Star, who is a daughter of Brave Raj, 1986 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) winner and the Eclipse Award champion 2-year-old filly that same season.
Zayat purchased Fast Bullet at the 2009 Keeneland September yearling sale for $230,000 from the consignment by Gainesway, agent.
