Gidu (IRE) gets first stakes win in Tampa's Columbia S.
Gidu, an Irish-bred son of the incomparable Frankel, scored his first stakes win March 10 at Tampa Bay Downs with a nearly two-length victory in the $75,000 Columbia S. [WATCH RACE].

The Columbia, restricted to 3-year-olds at one mile on the turf, drew a field of 12, with Gidu the heavy 3-5 favorite. The Zayat Stables colorbearer lived up to his billing, getting away cleanly from the seven hole to secure second behind longshot Getyourmindright going into the first turn. Maintaining that spot through six furlongs in 1:10.26, Gidu powered to the lead at the top of the stretch and never was threatened as he crossed the line in 1:34.52.

Trained by Todd Pletcher, Gidu was named a TDN Rising Star following his Dec. 23 maiden win at Gulfstream Park, then was narrowly second in his stakes debut, the Dania Beach S. (G3) Feb. 3 at Gulfstream. His overall mark now stands at 2-2-0 with earnings of $106,000.
