Hammerin Aamer wins duel to take Belmont allowance
Hammerin Aamer got a stiff challenge from Mr. Dougie Fresh in a 1 1/16-mile allowance June 9 at Belmont Park, but the 3-year-old Zayat Stables was up to the task, winning by a length while increasing his lifetime earnings to $218,635.

Hammerin Aamer was pressed by Mr. Dougie Fresh the entire trip, but never let his foe get the lead despite setting fast fractions of :45.54 for the half-mile and 1:09.90 for the six furlongs. The winner wrapped up the distance in 1:42.40 on a fast main track.

Remarkably consistent, Hammerin Aamer has finished in the top three in 12 straight starts and is 4-4-4 in 15 lifetime outings. He is trained by Rudy Rodriguez.
