Jazzy Times a “star” in his Derby Day debut
One year after American Pharoah won the Kentucky Derby (G1), Zayat Stables had another 3-year-old colt emerge victorious at Churchill Downs when the much-anticipated debut of Jazzy Times lived up to expectations on Derby Day 2016.

The 3-year-old colt, trained by Bob Baffert, powered to a 2 3/4-length victory in a 6 1/2-furlong maiden special weight contest in 1:15.21, less than a second off the track record and earning the son of Discreetly Mine a “TDN Rising Star” designation. The dark bay speedster also was rewarded with a stellar 92 Beyer Speed Figure (VIDEO).

The winner, bred in Kentucky by R Durham Racing, hails from the same family $3.2 million earner Caller One and the multiple stakes winner Unbridled Sidney. Zayat purchased Jazzy Times for $460,000 out of the 2015 OBS March Selected 2-year-old sale.
