Justin Squared a Rising Star at Del Mar
In a sparkling debut Saturday at Del Mar, Zayat Stables’ 2-year-old colt Justin Squared zipped to a 5 1/2-length victory in a 5 ½-furlong maiden special weight affair in 1:03.37, earning the son of Zensational a “TDN Rising Star” tag.

Trained by Bob Baffert, the gray or roan colt was ready to roll off a pair of five furlong bullet works, and flashed his speed right when the gate sprang on Saturday. Though he broke from the outside in the field of nine juveniles, Justin Squared had a two length lead after a quarter mile in :21.90. He held off his foes around the turn, then quickly pulled clear in the upper stretch under urging from Martin Pedroza, being geared down late to win in style (VIDEO).

Justin Squared was bred in Kentucky by Sun Valley Farm and is out of the unraced Vindication mare Graciously Soft, a sister to multiple Grade 1 winner Spoken Fur and two-time Grade 3 winner Unbridled’s Note.

Justin Squared picked up $42,000 for the win.
