Bob Baffert sent out Zayat Stables' Paynter for a five furlong breeze Oct. 14 at Santa Anita Park, and the trainer was very pleased with what he saw out of the 4-year-old colt as he prepares for the $5 million Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) on Nov. 2 at the southern California track.

"He looked really good," Baffert said. "He looked like the Paynter we know. He worked in company with (stablemate) Den's Legacy, breaking off from the 4 1/2-furlong pole. I got him going a half in :47, out three-quarters in 1:13."

The Santa Anita clockers recorded an official move of five furlongs in 1:00 flat with Martin Garcia in the irons; Garcia will also ride Paynter in the Classic.

Paynter was most recently second to Mucho Macho Man in the Grade 1 Awesome Again S. on Sept. 28 at Santa Anita. Paynter has made four starts this year since coming back from his near fatal illness, winning an allowance at Hollywood Park, then finishing a very game second in the San Diego H. (G2) at Del Mar.

Pre-entries for the mile and a quarter Classic will be announced on Oct. 21, with final post positions determined the following week.
