Zayat Stables' multiple graded stakes winner Prayer for Relief continued on his path toward a start  in the Jan. 14, $150,000 San Fernando S. (G2) with a six furlong workout on Dec. 28 at the southern California track. The soon-to-be 4-year-old colt covered the distance in 1:12.40 on a fast track, fourth best of 26 at the distance.

Trained by Bob Baffert, Prayer for Relief is a three-time “derby” winner in 2011, taking the $750 ,000 West Virginia Derby (G2), $500,000 Super Derby (G2), and $250,000 Iowa Derby (G3). His record now stands at 5-1-1 from 10 starts, with $1,015,225 in career earnings.

Prayer for Relief has been working steadily at Santa Anita, with four recorded works during December. Though he's been based at Santa Anita, the 1 1/16-mile San Fernando would mark Prayer for Relief's first start at the track. Nominations will be available approximately one week prior to the race.

Zayat bought Prayer for Relief as a yearling for $80,000 at the 2009 Keeneland September yearling sale. His dam, Sparklin Lil, a two-time stakes winner, has also produced Twin Sparks, who set a world record for six furlongs in the Caballos Del Sol H. at Turf Paradise.
