Prayer for Relief stellar in $75K Tenacious H.

Zayat Stable’s venerable campaigner Prayer for Relief was a his best in Saturday's $75,000 Tenacious H. at Fair Grounds Race Course, rolling to a  6 1/4-length victory (VIDEO) with David Flores in the irons for trainer Steve Asmussen.

The 5-year-old horse, starting high weight in the field with 120 pounds, increased his career earnings to $1,580,913 with his eighth win in 25 career starts. Along with a win in the Cornhusker H. (G3), Prayer for Relief won a trio of graded stakes as a 3-year-old.

After alternating for the lead in a three-way battle early through splits of 24.21 and 48.19. Prayer for Relief asserted himself on the final turn and was in full control of the outcome with a furlong to go. He covered the 1 1/16-miles over a fast main track in 1.43.78

“He put me in a spot where I wanted to be,” said Flores. “It’s never too early when you have the horse to make that kind of run.”

"He's a really nice horse," Asmussen added. "He ran his race today. (I'm) just very glad to see him back in the winner's circle where he belongs."
